A cloth doll named “Providence”

It doesn’t get much sweeter than this. Let me introduce you to Providence; such a big name for such a tiny little doll. She’s barely 8 inches tall. My favorite part of creating cloth dolls is the aging process and I don’t just mean the fabric. Creases and folds, worn out edges, and precious wrinkles all intentionally made for charm’s sake. Providence has it all. She is wearing a cotton reproduction fabric dress with a high waist and gathered neckline and sleeves. Her softness comes from being stuffed with local carded wool. Could she be any cuter with hair? No. So I didn’t give her any, just like many antique dolls before her. Her face was marked with a pencil. Her arms tilt forward. Doll and dress seams are machine stitched. All visible stitching is done thoughtfully by hand. The price is $45 and includes shipping. Providence will be wrapped gently and sent out straight away to your home. She was made in my pet and smoke free studio.

Velvet Heart Doll

This very special doll holds a token of love made out of old red velvet. The velvet is worn a bit adding to its charm and is wonderful prim red color. It is stuffed with wool so it can be used as a pin keep if you are a stitcher. The rag doll is made from hand-dyed linen, stuffed with wool, and aged appropriately. She's wearing a dress made from all cotton reproduction fabric. The visible stitching on the dress is barely visible with very tiny hand stitches done with great care. There is a combination of hand and machine stitching in the construction of the doll and dress. Her sweet face is hand drawn with an old fashioned pencil. Her hair is fashioned from a hand-dyed piece of twill tape. A loop on her back allows for hanging on a wall or she bends for proper sitting. Her height is 10 inches tall. Kindly asking $60 and $5 for shipping.

Snow Angel

What’s a snowfall without a snow angel to mark the event? I’ve made my own version of a snow angel out of hand dyed cotton fabric and stitched in all the details freehand with prim stitches, even a heart for all the love included. Wings are made from dyed cotton batting that has been stiffened. The halo is made from rusty wire. Perfect for adding to a garland or to hang from a hook with greens, and of course a wonderful ornament for the Christmas tree. There is a hanging loop which is about 2.5 inches. The snow angel measures 6 inches long, not including the halo and hanging loop. Kindly asking $20 with an extra $4 added for shipping from my house to yours.

Ticking winged angel

Looking like she just got discovered in a long forgotten attic, let me tell you about this prim little angel. Her rag stuffing gives her the perfect old feel. Her face and hair are simply stitched by hand with cotton thread. Wings made from old ticking (the stiff kind) and her rusty halo keep her heavenly while wearing a plaid homespun dress accented with 2 buttons. I’ve included a hanging loop. Here and there she has a few scuffs on her fabric which add to her perfect primness. She measures about 10 inches tall without her halo. She’s made by me from my own sketches. Kindly asking $40 with an extra $4 added for shipping from my house to yours.

Primitive Sock Cat

In years past, women were very industrious when creating toys for their children. Sock animals came out of that tradition of using what you had. I'm happy to offer my version of a sock cat stuffed with wool batting. The cat's face, heart and stripes have been sewn on by hand. A little collar was made from aged cotton twill tape. The cat body is made from 100% cotton sock fabric with a tight fine weave like a fancy knee sock. I used to use this fabric to make reproduction socks when I was an active living historian for my wardrobe. The cat measures almost 8" high and 3 1/2" inches wide. The tail measures 4" long. To help add to the primitive worn look, I've aged the fabric and added some "mending stitches". The cat is very huggable and is safe for child's play. The asking price includes shipping. $35

Button String Doll

I love finding old button strings when I'm sifting through button collections, so I thought I'd create a doll treasuring one between her hands. The cotton string is displaying 6 precious vintage buttons for safe keeping. The doll is made from old cotton fabric from my stash and is stuffed with scraps of cotton so feels just right. Her face is stitched on complete with rosy cheeks. Her hair is a piece of wool roving stitched onto her head. Her dress is made from a civil war repro cotton. If you look close you will see that "when she was new" she had two buttons on her dress but one has since fallen off. Maybe that's why she's holding so tightly to her button string. Her body and dress have been aged and so you will see little worn spots adding character to her little primitive spirit. She is signed by me, the maker. Measures 9.5" long. Kindly asking $45 and this includes shipping. After payment is received, the doll will be carefully packaged and put in the post.

Lost Sock Doll

This special rag doll is a keeper. She's stuffed with cotton scraps so she just feels ever so prim and snuggly. And then, oh my, she's lost one of her socks! Her face is hand drawn. Her dress is a combination of hand and machine stitching. All visible stitching is done by hand: her skirt gatherings, sleeves, and hem. Her fashionable dress is made of a repro blue stripe. All the fabrics have been aged and in places there are worn spots purposefully placed to add a sense of age and charm. Her one sock is made from old cotton sock fabric. Her body is made from old feed sack fabric. The doll measures 10" long and is signed by me, the maker.
