Jan Conwell Folk Artist

Original sculpted folk art, dolls, and stitchery needfuls.

I learned a long time ago--make the thing you want to live with, and chances are, someone else will love it too.  My folk art is sculpted of Paper Clay and various "found" materials; ornaments, small figures, and occasional dolls to keep me company.  Once in a while, I must stitch!  So occasional bits of crazy quilting, wool applique, or embroidery will find its way here as well.
Thank you for visiting.

SOLD~~~~~Rachel is a "sort of" Izannah Walker Doll. She is hand sculpted of paper clay over cloth (I use no molds), has needle sculpted fingers, and painted Balmoral boots. She wears a tiny pearl choker, muslin unders (petticoat, chemise and pantaloons) and a worn, slightly grungy dress. The primary departure from typical Izannah dolls is her sculpted Dutch Braid--which makes her unique. Rachel measures 18" tall, but seems much smaller in person.

SOLD~~~~~~Keep your buttons handy in style! The Thistle Button Box is 4.5" wide and 2.5" tall. The lid has a circle of wool applique done in an original Thistle design, wool with cotton stitching. The box itself is a wooden "cheese box" type construction.

I've had a thing about deer lately! So of course, when I designed this box, there had to be a dear deer. He dances over green fields of flowers by the light of a seven-pointed star. 5.5" wide x 4.5" tall, of sturdy mache construction. Wool applique with cotton stitching on top, wool around the lid edge, and a blue print cotton on the box bottom. Just right for sewing notions, balls of thread, or even mundane things you want to dress up a little.
